3. Firearms + weapons — RESTRICTED

Section 1 firearms (rifles, handguns) UK: Section 1 firearm certificate required + specifically permitted secure storage. NOT permitted at peer-to-peer host without licensed gun safe + pre-approval.
Shotguns UK: Shotgun certificate required + secure storage. Same restrictions.
Antique firearms Less restrictive but consult Firearms Act 1968 + amendments.
Crossbows, throwing knives, swords Restricted under Offensive Weapons Act 2019.
Air rifles + pistols Restricted by power + location laws.

For licensed firearm storage on a peer-to-peer platform, dedicated specialist storage is recommended — Packhood is generally not the appropriate platform.

4. Perishable + biological — PROHIBITED

These items are not prohibited but not covered by the standard £25k / cover above stated limits:

6. Motor vehicles — SEPARATE SCHEME

Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, motorhomes, caravans, boats) are stored under Packhood's vehicle-storage scheme — see /uk/storage/vehicle. Key requirements:

  • Renter's own vehicle insurance covers the vehicle.
  • Disclose dimensions, weight, type to host before booking.

7. Hazardous items detected mid-booking

If a host discovers prohibited items in a booking:

  1. Pause access to the area.
  2. Notify Packhood disputes team within 24 hours.
  3. Notify renter to arrange immediate removal.
  4. Authorities notified where illegal (drugs, unlicensed firearms, etc.).
  5. Booking may be terminated with no refund.

8. What renter must disclose at booking

  • High-value items (jewellery, art, electronics > £500/€500).
  • Items requiring climate control (electronics, vinyl, art, leather, paper).
  • Hazardous-adjacent items (lithium battery devices, paint cans even empty, etc.).
  • Vehicle dimensions for vehicle storage.
